Holiday eating marathons are over.  I’m sure you are now feeling the effects of the season’s decadence on your body.

Here are some quick fixes to flush out all the guilt and extra fatty deposits from your system.  These are home remedies available on the Internet.
Make sure that if you do a home detox program you are free from any medical conditions.  In other words, no diabetes, high-blood pressure and the like.  You can do these programs at home. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, get the consent and approval of your doctor.  Women who are pregnant should also refrain from any kind of detox program.
Here are two easy-to-do detox treatments you can make at home.

FRUIT DETOX
Set aside two or three whole days and eat nothing but fresh fruit.  Fruits are loaded with vitamins and minerals as well as fiber.
This is the easiest of the home detox methods I have come across because you do not get that hungry.  Some websites  encourage one to take dried fruits, fruit juices and canned fruit. In other words, anything as long as it is fruit.
My recommendation though would be to stick to fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices that you juice yourself.
Stay away from dried fruits during detox because dried fruits contain large amounts of sugar.  Store-bought fruit juices are also high in sugar, it is best to juice your own fruit.
It is widely believed that citrus fruits have the largest detoxifying effects. During this time stay away from coffee and other beverages.  Stick to water and fruit juices only.   Do this for two or three days.
GALL-BLADDER FLUSH
For a do-at-home gall bladder flush, I strongly urge you not to do this if you have a preexisting medical condition. Stay home for two days and do not do any strenuous activities. This is your chance to rest.
Recipes for the gall-bladder flushes are readily available on the Internet.  Here is the simplest one I have found. The blog author credits the recipe from the book, “The Cure for All Diseases” by Hulda Regehr Clark.
DAY ONE
On Day 1, from 6 a.m. (or when you wake up) till 2 p.m., eat as much fresh fruit as you want.  This includes fresh fruit juices that you have juiced yourself.
The recipe I found on a blog site says eat only apples.  I consulted a holistic practitioner and he says any fresh fruit will do. After 2 p.m., fast.  This means no water or food of any kind.  At 6 p.m., take the following solution:  1 tbsp Epsom salts dissolved in 12 oz of water.  You can make the solution ahead of time and cool it in the refrigerator as it will taste slightly better when cold.  Take the solution and have a slice of apple or an orange wedge handy so you can chew on this immediately after to get the taste out.
At 8 p.m. repeat the process by taking 1 tbsp of Epsom salts mixed with 12 oz of water.  At 10 p.m., take 4 oz  of extra-virgin olive oil and mix with the juice of four lemons or two grapefruits.   Mix and take while standing.   Get ready for bed and lie on your left side for at least 20 minutes.
DAY TWO
On Day 2, 7 a.m. (or when you wake up) take another Epsom salt solution.  Again you are still not eating or taking in any water.  At 9 a.m. or two hours later, take your last Epsom salt solution.  And at noon you can have a light, fat-free lunch.
This detox program will remove gall stones from your digestive system.  You will be making frequent trips to the bathroom and you will expel green and/or brown stones.  This is a safe and effective way to cleanse your digestive system and your gall bladder.
Some people experience headaches during detox programs but this is normal.  You will also notice that if you take coffee on a regular basis, headaches will occur as a result of caffeine withdrawals.
Green tea is a good alternative to coffee as it also wakes you up without the negative affects of caffeine. Note that detox treatments are suppose to make you feel better as it flushes out the toxins and impurities in your body.
So, if you experience any kind of discomfort, simply stop.  Listen to your body and do not overdo it. You can slowly introduce the detox program into your system to avoid body shock.
LIGHTER,  CLEANER
You should feel better, lighter and cleaner with a detox, it should not make you sick and overly uncomfortable. There is no such thing as failure.  If your body can only take one day, so be it.  The next time you can move on to two days.  Base it on how your body reacts.  You can repeat these detox programs once a month at the most.
Your body needs to function with real food and detoxing is not a means to weight loss. Eating healthy and getting proper exercise are the only ways to lose or maintain weight.
Weight loss as a result of detoxing is only temporary.  Detox is to cleanse and that is the primary reason one goes on a program.  Alternative health practitioners will normally sell home detox kits as part of their practice. These kits are variations of the above recipe.  Most integrative practitioners will add their own herbal concoctions to the basic recipe above and conduct detox with professional supervision.
